BEIS has published answers to questions concerning the FleX Competition which were sent during an information event on 13 March. Published on Monday 8 April, BEIS explained that applicants in the competition are allowed to outline a vision of how the flexibility exchange could operate better under different market or regulatory conditions but their entry should also look at how to make the exchange work within the existing market and regulation. BEIS also said that applicants do not have to involve either National Grid ESO or a Distribution Network Operator (DNO) directly in their consortium to be eligible, but each proposed flexibility exchange must have the capability to provide access to flexibility products, addressing needs spanning both the ESO and at least one DNO or Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO). Additionally, the projects must trial at least 100 real participants.
