Following media reports that National Grid was struggling to accurately predict levels of embedded generation, ElectraLink has clarified that it is working to allow it access to more granular data. In a statement ElectraLink explained that it had already created a distribution generation dataset, which provides aggregated generation data. It added that it has been “proactively engaged” with the System Operator to assess how it could use this to improve its forecasting. However, National Grid has subsequently asked for access to data at the Meter Point Administration Number level, which ElectraLink explained could be used to identify individual properties and was therefore covered by GDPR laws. Despite this, discussions have been had on allowing National Grid access to this data. Feedback has been sought from the DTS contract managers following their impact assessment of the change. The user group is due to discuss the feedback on 2 March.
