Highways England announced on Thursday 7 March that it has awarded a £2.8mn contract to BP Chargemaster to install over 50 electric vehicle (EV) charge points across England over the next nine months. Highways England has committed to ensuring 95% of its motorways and major A roads are within 20 miles of a charge point. Highways England Environmental Designated Fund (Carbon) Portfolio Manager and Project Lead Mark Collins said: “To help improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions we’re introducing more electric charging points, at locations near to the network, for example at nearby town centres. This shows that we are looking ahead to meet the future demand for this facility.” BP Chargemaster will also be providing operation and maintenance services for the duration of the seven-year contract.
