New research by energy switching service Labrador has revealed that just 12% of households have provided their supplier with regular meter readings in the past 10 years and just under half have paid via estimated bills in the past two years, resulting in many overpaying. The survey, published on Monday 14 May, also found that 23% of households said they hadn’t switched providers in the last five years and 11% said they thought there wasn’t any difference between providers. Founder and Chief Executive of Labrador, Jane Lucy said: “This research has lifted the lid on the inherent flaws already compounding an energy market in critical need of reform. The solution shouldn’t have to land at the door of the consumer changing their behaviour but with better, smarter solutions to re-engage customers.”
