On Tuesday 5 February the Department for Transport (DfT) announced that more than £6mn was being made available to local authorities across the UK to support low emissions taxis. The funding will see almost 300 rapid chargepoints and 46 fast chargepoints installed for low emissions taxis in 17 local authorities, including Greater Manchester, Brighton and Hove and Leicester. The government estimated that more than 800 black cabs and more than 3,000 private hire vehicles will benefit from the new chargepoints, which it said: “marks another milestone in the delivery of the government’s Road to Zero Strategy”.
