A new report from the Aldersgate Group has recommended that the government ensures that public transport is the most attractive form of transport for most journeys. Published on Monday 11 March, the report said that this should be achieved through improving the accessibility, reliability and affordability of the rail network, as well as developing a national bus strategy. The group also called for devolved, long-term funding to local and regional authorities to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of local transport systems. Additionally, it called for guaranteeing upfront purchase grants until electric vehicles (EVs) reach cost parity and delivering an affordable, efficient and widely accessible EV charging infrastructure.
