Octopus Energy has launched a new time of use tariff designed to reduce charging costs for electric vehicle (EV) owners by helping customers use energy when it is most affordable. Called Octopus Energy Go, the new tariff is “100% green” and provides customers with four hours per night of electricity at 5p/kWh – up to 70% cheaper than typical larger supplier tariffs and on average at least 25% cheaper than typical Economy 7 tariff night rates, Octopus Energy claims. The company has also partnered with Myenergi to provide chargers which automatically charge during the cheapest four hours overnight. Octopus Energy said the move represented “a tangible development towards a smart and flexible use of the energy grid to help decarbonise the UK.”
