A Premier Inn in Edinburgh is reportedly the first battery-powered hotel in the UK following the installation of a 100kW lithium-ion battery by E.ON. Premier Inn’s parent company Whitbread said that the installation will reduce the hotel’s energy bills by charging with off-peak power to be used during peak times. This is expected to save the hotel around £20,000 every year. As reported on 3 January by Edinburgh Evening News, Whitbread said the battery would help it achieve its commitment to halve its carbon emissions by 2025 from 2016-17 levels.
