Public Power Solutions (PPS), which is wholly owned by Swindon Borough Council, has received planning consent for a 50MW battery storage facility. In a statement on Wednesday 14 March, PPS said the project will be located at the former Mannington Depot and will be one of the largest standalone batteries to be developed so far in the UK. PPS is now in discussions with developers that are looking for front of the meter battery storage opportunities to fund and construct the project. The site is being designed to have a 30-year lifespan and provide balancing services for National Grid.
