A range of energy organisations have, together with former and current energy ministers, launched a new pan-industry campaign aimed at backing a smart energy pathway for the UK. The Smart Power Industries Alliance (SPIA) aims to put consumers at the centre of energy policy and create a market for new technologies and services. Among the members of the SPIA are National Grid, Energy UK and RenewableUK. The Alliance is already working on a range of projects to help deliver a smarter energy system and has called on government to enact five key principles at the centre of energy policy to sustain the smart transition. These are: put consumers at the heart of energy policy; facilitate the creation of new markets for smart services; take a whole-system approach to smart energy; accelerate the smart power transition; and make smart power central to the Industrial Strategy.
