The number of community renewable energy projects in Scotland has increased by 62% since 2011, according to an announcement by the SNP on Monday 13 August. The party said that there are now more than 450 local communities with renewable energy initiatives. The announcement said: “The SNP government has a strong track record on supporting community empowerment and helping communities take steps to develop new renewable energy projects – despite huge subsidy cuts from the Tory government at Westminster.” It cited initiatives such as the Community Empowerment Act and the Local Energy Challenge Fund as drivers of the trend.
